Overview

Reskill Calgary is a company focused on education and workforce development, specifically designed to support tech immigrants in upskilling and becoming job market-ready. It offers training programs, resources, and community support to help individuals transition into the technology sector, enhancing their skills and improving their employability in a competitive job market.

I led the UX redesign of their website to improve accessibility and user engagement. Using user research, I identified key pain points and implemented intuitive navigation and content enhancements tailored to their needs.Utilize insights from user research to create a clean, accessible, and intuitive website interface that would allow users to see organisation's value proposition, sign up for programs, and make payments seamlessly. Ensuring the website solution was responsive on all devices.

What was unexpected?

During the project, conflicting priorities among stakeholders delayed progress and lead to frequent scope changes and misaligned expectations. It wasn’t until we facilitated a collaborative workshop to align on user needs and project goals that we regained direction and delivered a cohesive solution.

What did I learn?

These were the key insights and learnings, I gained from executing this project


  • Aligning Stakeholder Priorities: Reconciling diverse stakeholder priorities to user needs was needed to ensure a unified vision for the redesign. This task entailed presenting research, design iterations and a sprinkle of compromise with organizational goals to create impactful, user-centered solutions.


  • Inclusivity: I also deepened my understanding of designing for inclusivity and accessibility, recognizing how critical these aspects are for diverse user groups.


  • Collaboration: I gained valuable experience in working with a team of software engineers, a project manager, and a QA tester. Their different perspectives and expertise helped us create an effective solution.

Future integration points

  • Accessibility enhancements: incorporating translation into multiple languages to support immigrants who may not have English as their first language.


  • Personalised Learning Dashboards: a dashboard that tracks user progress, suggests tailored resources, and highlights upcoming workshops or events.

Results

  • Usability: Designed a company website to increase user engagement and decrease user drop off rate by 30%. Users also find the platform easier to access with a modern look.

  • Accessibility: Compliance checks demonstrated strict adherence to WCAG guidelines and conformity with all necessary regulatory standards, ensuring an accessible and inclusive user experience.
